National Book Month Celebration at GCC

In line with the National Book Month Celebration, GCC English Elementary Department also celebrated its yearly book festival with various activities for Grades One to Six students. The Library Info Hunt Contest is for students from Grades 4 to 6. There must be a pair of students to join the competition. Each pair was given the same set of questions, answers to which are found in the different reference books from the library. There were nine (9) pairs who participated in the contest, but only 5 pairs were declared as winners.

Five - 1 students Theodore Christopher R. Ocampo and Aivy Willow L. Ting got the 5th place while Koen V. Yee and Winchester A. Gaweco of 5-3 bagged the 4th place. The 3rd place goes to Andreas Maxene S. Lao and Janelle Valerie L. Tan of Grade 4-2 while the 2nd place goes to Kim Jazmine O. Chua and Sian Iley Q. Fernandez of Grade 5-4. The pair from Six-1, Joey Ashley S. Sy and Beatrice Maxine D. Sy were declared 1st place winner of the contest.

The Book Spine Stacking Contest is a contest that tested student’s creativity and grammar skill. The students should pile together book spines that will tell a meaningful statement. It took the students almost one and a half hour to find all the books that they needed. The judges have unanimously chosen the meaningful sentence “God is great, God made me special, God made the world we live in” and declared Sian Iley Q. Fernandez the winner.

Visual representation of ideas and creativity were encouraged by the Poster Making Contest. The said contest was divided into two categories, the first is for grades 1-3 which was participated by 12 students, and the second was for Grades 4-6, with 9 participants. Samantha P. Zurbito of 2-2 won the poster making contest in the first category, followed by Firenza Yao-Yao R. Cai (1-4), Raika Charlize Jane A. Ong (1-4) in the second and third spots respectively. Yuvin Kim of 6-4 was declared as the champ for the second category. Bagging the 2nd place is Abbrianna Grace S. Ang of 4-3, and Tristan Jacob C. Fontillas of 6-4 got the 3rd place.

A story came to life as the creative and talented adviser of 5-2 Ms. Claridel Pineda read with gusto the story of “The Two Friends and the Bear.” The students carved out time from their lunch break to listen and be enthralled by the wonderful stories told.
